Dr. Sunita Bhatia started learning Kathak at the age of 6 under the tutelage of Guru Usha Sharma of Jhankar Dance School in Winnipeg. She completed her Arrangetram in Bharatnatyam under the guidance of Guru Maneka Thakar. Sunita is one of the founding members of the Winnipeg based dance troupe, Manohar and she teaches Bharatnatyam to kids in her school, AnishKa School of Dance. Since joining Upasana the Spirit of Dance under the direction of Guru Saveeta Sharma in 2002, Sunita’s repertoire has been expanded to include Odissi and Indian contemporary dance. Sunita has performed in multiple Upasana Productions including Incarnations of Fire (2003), Nritya Sundaram (2009) and Utkalika (2016). She has taken various advanced dance workshops with renowned artists such as Guru Kalanidhi Narayanan, Vidushi Saswati Sen and Padma Vibushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. Sunita continues to dance under the direction of and in the company of Guru Saveeta Sharma, while teaching at Upasana.
