Karina Dutta Karmakar is one of the most senior students at Upasana the Spirit of Dance. She has trained under the guidance of Guru Saveeta Sharma since 1998 and has been trained in a variety of dance forms including Kathak, Odissi, and Indian Contemporary. Karina is one of the founding members and dancers as well as the artistic director and choreographer of Jannat Performing Arts, a filmy-fusion dance troupe. She has performed in multiple Upasana productions as well as for Canada Day 150 (2017), the Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards (2017-2018) and Holi, Diwali and Asian Heritage on the Hill (2018). Karina had the opportunity to take part in intensive Kathak workshops with Shri Anuj Mishra, Vidushi Saswati Sen and Padma Vibushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has also attended workshops with Bollywood dance Maestro Saroj Khan, as well as Terence Lewis, Blake McGrath and Chaz Buzan. Karina teaches and trains at Upasana the Spirit of Dance while dancing in Guru Saveeta Sharma’s company.
