Shilpa Rao started her intensive training in Kathak at Upasana the Spirit of Dance under Guru Saveeta Sharma in 2009. In August 2019, she successfully completed her Ranga Pravesh. Shilpa gave her first solo professional show entitled Tears of Innocence in 2019, at Kabir Arts Centre in Montreal, and performed at the emerging artist symposium in the spring of 2019. Shilpa has also had the opportunity to take workshops with renowned artists such as Gaurav Bhatti (2018), Seema Mehta and Jason Samuels Smith (2019), Hiren Chate (2022), Vidushi Saswati Sen and Padma Vibushan Pandit Birju Maharaj (2018). She has performed in company productions such as Utkalika (2016), Tribute to Pandit Birju Maharaj (2020), Dreams of Fire (2021) and Ek Rashtra Ka Chitra (2022). She has been exposed to various other styles of dance, such as Indian contemporary dance. Shilpa is now dancing in Guru Saveeta Sharma’s company while pursuing her degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
