DANs/cE KAPITAL Festival 2014
Friday, 21 March 2014 to Monday, 24 March 2014
DANs/cE KAPITAL provides a visually exciting opportunity for the presentation of Canadian and international artists and their dance companies. Performing artists have an opportunity to meet and – through net-working – create a productive atmosphere of artistic collaboration.
Upasana’s basic objective in presenting the DANs/cE KAPITAL festival is to promote a Canadian culture of dance within the Ottawa communities by facilitating intercultural dialogue, collaboration and mutual impacts on artistic creativity amongst diverse cultural traditions which have come together in this multicultural society. The festival promotes this objective by concentrating its efforts on the transcultural communication between dancers of diverse communities and their impact on Canadian society – the audience. DANs/cE KAPITAL is committed to present dancers of the highest standard of excellence within their matrix of sensibilities and norms of presentations. The audience, in turn, will be challenged to absorb wider and newer horizons of aesthetic concepts, artistic norms and cultural world views.
DANs/cE KAPITAL provides the audience with a colourful, culturally and historically rich, and educationally relevant experience by promoting the professional and emergent artistic community's involvement in Ottawa's cultural activities through traditional and contemporary dances, based on various styles such as classical and contemporary Indian, modern, Flamenço, African, experimental and avant garde. In the process, Upasana also accomplishes the additional objective to create an opportunity for Ottawa artists to work closer together in a new spirit of cooperation, and showcase their work in an appropriate venue. In accordance with Upasana’s policy, all artists and their companies presented in the Festival perform new works based on their own original choreography.
DANs/cE KAPITAL’s celebration of dance and inter-cultural explorations would not be possible without the extraordinary help of dedicated volunteers and organizations such as the City of Ottawa, Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Canada Heritage and Canada Council for their generous financial support.
It is to their spirit and the spirit of the artists to whom the DANs/cE KAPITAL FESTIVAL is dedicated – this year and in the years to follow.
